Cinema for all: Accessible Listening at the film festival in the forest hut 2026
On 13 June 2026, the film festival in the forest hut took place for the fourth time. In the midst of greenery, on the outskirts of Innsbruck, a special place for film, encounters, and shared experiences was created for one day.
The film festival in the forest hut – short fiwa – is not a festival with a red carpet, flash photography, and grand staging. It is intentionally kept simple. The focus is not on pomp and show, but on the people: those who make films and those who watch them together. This is precisely what creates the special atmosphere of the festival.

The forest hut itself has stood for community, exchange, support, mutual learning, tolerance, and acceptance for many years. It is a place where people come together, engage in conversation, and learn from one another. This attitude also shapes the fiwa. The festival sees itself as an open space for encounters – accessible, warm, and welcoming.
Thematically, the film festival in the forest hut is dedicated to topics closely connected to the place and its surroundings: Roma and Romnja, inequality, housing, migration, sustainability, and the question of how good coexistence can succeed. Films with understandable plots and strong imagery will be shown. Admission is free, as film, art, and culture should be accessible to all.
For the festival, the barn of the forest hut is converted into a cinema. Around the film screenings, there was again a diverse programme in 2026: culinary delights, art and culture, guided tours, children's programmes, recognition awards, encounters, and music. Overall, the team was pleased with more than 200 visitors and a great atmosphere.
Barrier-free listening as part of "Cinema for all"
This year, Summitwave was able to support the festival in taking another step towards accessibility: The moderation and film sound were additionally transmitted via the Summitwave system to loaned headphones and compatible modern hearing aids.

This allowed visitors to experience the sound more clearly, directly, and individually – regardless of where they were sitting or how well they could perceive the ambient sound on site. Especially during film screenings, discussions, and moderations, clear sound can be crucial for whether people can truly participate.
For the film festival in the forest hut, this technical support directly aligned with its own philosophy: Cinema for all.
Accessibility does not only mean ramps, paths, or physical access. Good hearing is also an important part of cultural participation. When people can better understand films, discussions, and moderations, a festival becomes more open, inclusive, and vibrant.

We are very pleased that we were able to accompany fiwa 2026 in this way, and we sincerely thank the team of the film festival at Waldhüttl for their trust and the wonderful collaboration.
